Transfer to Luchon, where we will leave our luggage, before starting to explore this incredible area. Discover the Oueil valley and some of its villages, climbing up to the Mail de Soupene viewpoint and its megalithic ruins. This is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the Luchonnais, with a splendid panoramic view of the impressive “3000” barrier.

DAY 2 – Lac d’Oô &##8211; Cirque d’Espingo
From the granges d’Astau, an obvious woodland climb to the famous Lac d’Oô, dominated by the granite summit of Quayrat. We continue beyond Lac d’Oô for a superb view “from above”, as far as a second lake, Lac d’Espingo, nestling in the cirque of the same name, in a most heavenly setting. We can even take advantage of the refuge to quench our thirst before starting the descent…

DAY 3 – Vallée du Lys – Lac Vert
In the heart of the Cirque du Lys, beneath a string of peaks perched at an altitude of over 3000 metres, we climb to Lac Vert, a marvellous emerald-coloured haven of peace, in an atmosphere that is becoming more and more high-mountain.

DAY 4 – Pic du Lion – Lac de Bareilles
Today’s programme includes the Pic du Lion, a splendid summit. A pretty path, varied throughout, takes us along an elegant, and easy, ridgeline. From the Pic du Lion, the view is breathtaking: from the Pic du Midi de Bigorre, to the nearby 3000m wall of the Luchonnais, via the high peaks of the Néouvielle, the panorama is complete! At our feet is the delightful Bordères (or Bareilles) lake, nestling in this corner of the mountains, which we return to little by little, before continuing this loop. On the way back, we can even reach a second summit, Mont Né! A splendid route at the crossroads of several valleys.

DAY 5 – Boums du Port – Port de Vénasque
For this final day of hiking in the majestic Luchon valley, we set off for one of the area’s most iconic outings, the incredible Port de Vénasque, built to facilitate passage between France and Spain. The ascent is on a wide, winding path that leads up to the Vénasque refuge and the Boums du Port lakes. A few metres higher up, we arrive at the Port de Vénasque: the view is simply fabulous, one postcard photo after another, with a breathtaking view of the Aneto, and, looking back, the lakes we are now overlooking.

At 9am at Saint-Gaudens station (31). Be dressed in hiking clothes, rucksack ready, water and hiking boots to hand.

Dismissal from 10.30 am in Saint-Gaudens on Friday morning.
– LEVEL
5 to 6 hours’ walking, with a difference in altitude of between 650 and 1050m, mostly on waymarked paths with no technical difficulties. Because of the difference in altitude, however, you need to be in good physical condition. On certain dates, depending on the snow conditions, part of the itinerary may be slightly modified.
