Description

The Vallée du Lis, de la Pique and d’Oô, high mountain valleys marked by glacial erosion and dominated by peaks over 3,000 m in altitude, are classified as Natura 2000 sites.
As are numerous sites in the Garonne valley and its main tributaries in the Midi-Pyrénées (Ariège, Hers, Salat, Pique and Neste), which are vital for migratory fish species. Species of birds of prey such as the bearded vulture, Egyptian vulture and red kite abound on both banks of the river, as do partridges and pheasants and four species of heron.
