Tourism and Disability

Beyond the label

A large number of establishments, although they do not have a label, offer facilities adapted for people with reduced mobility. These establishments are constantly striving to improve their accessibility.

This voluntary approach bears witness to the commitment of Pyrenean tourism professionals. Hoteliers, restaurateurs and activity providers are gradually investing in adapted facilities, often in conjunction with specialised local associations.

Concrete initiatives Removable access ramps, rooms on the same level, menus in Braille, magnetic loops for the hearing impaired… Although not certified, these facilities greatly facilitate the stay of people with disabilities.

A personalised approach These establishments favour direct contact with their customers before their stay. This communication enables them to tailor their welcome to the specific needs of each person and to anticipate any difficulties that may arise.

An area accessible to all

The Haut-Garonne Pyrenees are committed to inclusive tourism. Our mountainous region (not always easy to get to) is developing a range of tourist attractions adapted to people with motor, visual, hearing or mental disabilities. Promoted by the Communauté de Communes des Pyrénées Haut-Garonnaises, the memorial trail“Les chemins de la Liberté” is accessible to all, immersing you in the dark history of the smugglers during the Second World War.

From Luchon to the surrounding valleys, discover facilities designed with accessibility in mind and professionals trained to welcome all kinds of visitors.

Tourism and Disability Label: a guarantee of quality

The national Tourisme et Handicap label guarantees a welcome and services adapted to the type of disability. It is awarded to establishments that meet specific accessibility and comfort criteria.

This certification, awarded for 5 years, covers four types of disability: motor, visual, hearing and mental. It provides visitors with reliable information on the actual accessibility of the premises.
