Mountain bikers will find plenty to do on the famous mountain bike trails. Thanks to the Crémaillère Express, you can reach an altitude of 1,800m and hurtle down enduro routes with a 1,200m vertical drop.

For those who prefer to explore, there are numerous trails offering the chance to observe the local flora and fauna.

In autumn, the forests are decked out in brilliant colours, making each hike even more magical, with perhaps a few mushrooms as a reward.

Tour de France 2025

It’s not for nothing that the Tour de France 2025 has chosen to return to the twists and turns of the climb to Luchon-Superbagnères for the finish of the 14th stage from Pau.

The ascent to Luchon-Superbagnères by bike is an emblematic climb in the Haut-Garonne Pyrenees. Over 17.2 kilometres, with a positive difference in altitude of 1,160 metres and an average gradient of 6.7%, it offers cyclists a major challenge, combining sustained effort with magnificent scenery. As soon as you leave Luchon, the route winds through the forest before opening out onto spectacular panoramic views, culminating in the finish at an altitude of 1,800 metres. A must for fans of legendary climbs!

Hiking to the summits

Luchon-Superbagnères offers an ideal setting for hiking, with a variety of routes to suit all levels. Take to the summits from the Hospice de France, an emblematic starting point for discovering the Vallée du Lys and the wild landscapes of the Pyrenees. You can also explore the Vallée d’Oô, famous for its turquoise lake, or the Vallée d’Oueil, renowned for its pastoral charm and breathtaking views. For easy access, take the Crémaillère Express, which takes you up to the resort in just a few minutes, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. In summer, don’t forget the Lipy shuttle service for easy access to the departure points.

From 1 to 3 August 2025, concerts in the town of Luchon, and exceptional performances at altitude in the resort of Luchon-Superbagnères. For the first edition in 2024, an exceptional duo was invited to Superbagnères: Arpi Alto and André Manoukian on piano-vocals. A singer with a velvety voice and a sensitivity just beneath her skin, Arpi Alto captivates more with her bewitching timbre than with her natural charm. From Brazilian bossa to a Sinatra ballad, via a medieval Armenian poem, she navigates between gentleness and sensuality, offering a musical journey of rare intensity.

Downhill mountain biking

For adrenalin-seeking mountain bikers, there are several trails leading down from the resort of Luchon-Superbagnères. The Kbour trail offers a descent from the resort towards Luchon through the forest and along the forest road. Or the Bois de Coumès trail, which passes the lake at Arbesquens on the way down to Luchon.

A more family-friendly descent offers several options on the way to Luchon.

8 minutes to reach the resort with your mountain bike

From the station with the shuttle bus, or directly from the centre of Luchon, the Crémaillère Express gondola links up with the resort in 8 minutes. And if in winter you go up with skis on your shoulder, in summer you go up with your mountain bike under your arm. Whether you’re on a pedibus cum jambis excursion, or hurtling down the slopes on your mountain bike, the gondola will transport you and your mount.

Aneto Trail, Luchon Enduro VTT, sports enthusiasts are in for a treat in Luchon-Superbagnères. The Luchon Aneto Trail is a not-to-be-missed event for mountain running enthusiasts. The next edition will take place on 5 and 6 July 2025, with 6 different races on the slopes of the Pyrenees. On two wheels, it’s mountain biking that’s up for grabs with the Luchon Enduro Trail.
