13 & 14 September 2025 - Luchon

For a weekend, Luchon regains its imperial lustre

On 13 and 14 September 2025, Luchon invites you to step back in time to the Second Empire, the golden era when Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie made the Queen of the Pyrenees their favourite holiday resort. Period costumes, historic dances, spectacular processions and a sumptuous ball at the Casino: everything is brought together to relive the art of 19th century living in its original Pyrenean setting. This unique event is organised by Carnet de Bals, France’s leading historical dance association, in partnership with the town of Luchon and the Friends of Napoleon III.

Entertainment for all

From 10.15am on Saturday, the streets of Luchon will come alive with parades in period costumes. Market square, allée d’Étigny, historic facades: the whole town centre will become the setting for these spectacular strolls. At 12.30pm, the Casino Park will be the setting for a country-style lunch in the purest tradition of the Second Empire. The afternoon will be punctuated by free dance workshops at 3pm and 4.30pm, led by specialists from Carnet de Bals. Waltzes, quadrilles and polkas are just some of the emblematic dances that young and old alike will be able to learn, with no need to register in advance. On Sunday morning, a mass in tribute to the Prince Imperial at 10.30am will precede the grand costumed parade down the allée d’Étigny at 11.30am.

Dinner show and grand ball at the Casino

The highlight of the weekend will be the dinner-show and grand ball on Saturday evening at the Casino de Luchon. In a place steeped in history, where the European elite once flocked, participants will experience an exceptional evening in the hushed atmosphere of the Second Empire. The programme includes a refined dinner with period flavours, a historical dance performance and a grand ball open to all. It’s the perfect opportunity to put into practice the steps you’ve learnt in the workshops and immerse yourself in the glamorous atmosphere of the 19th century. Price: €45 per person (dinner included). Dress code: elegant, period costumes welcome.
