One hundred years after the disastrous torrential flooding of the Pique in 1925, the Communauté de Communes Pyrénées Haut-Garonnaises and the Syndicat Mixte Garonne Amont are inviting residents and visitors to discover this significant event in our history. From 16 to 31 October 2025, the Maison du Curiste in Luchon will be hosting an exhibition, free and open to all, featuring captivating stories, archive photographs, press articles and eyewitness accounts from the period. This plunge into the past provides a better understanding of the challenges our mountain region has always had to face in the face of intense natural phenomena.
This exhibition goes beyond a simple historical commemoration: it is part of a contemporary approach to raising awareness and prevention. By reminding us that our mountains are still exposed to real risks, such as flooding, avalanches and boulder falls, it reinforces the risk culture that is vital in the mountains. Since 2017, the CCPHG has also been involved in the STePRiM (Territorial Strategy for the Prevention of Mountain Risks) initiative, recognised in 2023 as the first in France and supported by the State. This exhibition showcases the collective commitment of elected representatives, technicians, associations and local residents to ensuring shared safety in the face of natural hazards.
For all visitors staying in Luchon or exploring our Pyrenean valleys, this exhibition is an enriching and free stopover. It offers a unique perspective on the identity and resilience of our mountain territory, helping you to better appreciate the landscape you pass through and the villages you discover. A moment of sharing and understanding, perfect to round off your visit to the Haut-Garonne Pyrenees.
