On 18 and 19 October, Sauveterre-de-Comminges will be hosting the 26th apple festival, a not-to-be-missed event in the autumn calendar organised by the Salva Terra association. This convivial event celebrates the emblematic fruit of our orchards and showcases the traditional skills of the Comminges region. Sauveterre-de-Comminges comes alive with apple-related activities for all ages, a gourmet market, exhibitions of old varieties and, of course, the famous apple press, which attracts hundreds of participants every year eager to transform their harvest into delicious homemade juice.
On Saturday 18 October, the Salva Terra mobile apple press will be pressing apples for private individuals (registration required on 06 77 57 29 09). Participants can have their apples pressed for as little as €1.10 a litre. The Foyer Rural is also organising a walk from 10am to 5pm to explore the Comminges countryside and the eleven hamlets of Sauveterre.
Sunday 19 October from 9am to 6pm is the highlight, with a large gourmet market bringing together over forty local producers and craftspeople. On the programme: exhibition of old apples by the association “Les vergers retrouvés du Comminges”, sale of fruit trees, craft workshops (hats, sweets, bread), woodcraft demonstrations and a trunk hive. The official inauguration will take place at 11am, accompanied by musicians from the Rural Jazz Band. The association’s apple juice will be sold at €3.50 a litre in aid of Salva Terra.
