Description

Carved in local white marble from the Rapp quarry, the work takes the form of a slender column topped by an abstract knot motif. While the artist is evoking a historical memory – in particular the old quarry at Saint-Béat, known as the ‘Roman breach’, and the inspiration of Trajan’s column, alluded to in a local legend – some have interpreted the knot as a stylised representation of the twists and turns of Pyrenean mountain roads.
