The Marbre de vie statue in blue St-Béat marble (known as Turquin marble) was created in 2003 by French sculptor Serge Sallan, based in Albi, during the Festival de la Sculpture et du Marbre de Saint-Béat.
The statue represents a human face on the banks of the Garonne. Here, the sculptor is emphasising the visible and invisible sides of the human being. The egg above represents birth and life.
Serge Sallan specialises in sculpture in stone, marble and wood, as well as drawing and painting. He produces monumental works for French and international commissions. He is a member of the Trois Sources cultural association, where he teaches sculpture.
For the Festival de la sculpture et du marbre de Saint-Béat, he has already created the Passus-Lupi statue with his coat of arms at the entrance to the village.
