How can large predators and livestock coexist? This is the question we’ll be trying to answer during 4 special screenings in the Pyrenees of the documentary Coexistencia: On the trail of the pumas, directed by young biologist and film-maker Thomas Julienne. This fascinating story follows his 7,000-kilometre bicycle journey through Patagonia (Argentina and Chile), exploring the ways in which livestock farmers and large predators such as pumas can coexist – a universal and fascinating ecological issue that is just as relevant in Patagonia as it is in France.

Lasting around 1 hour, this documentary, which has won two awards at festivals, immerses viewers in the day-to-day lives of Patagonian farmers faced with the challenges of predation. Through authentic encounters and poignant personal accounts, Thomas Julienne highlights practical solutions such as guard dogs, lighting systems, “Wildlife Friendly” label initiatives and ecotourism.
The screening will be followed by a privileged discussion with the director, who will share his experience, the striking encounters of his journey and the challenges of human-nature coexistence.
