PORT DE BALÈS
This pass rises to an altitude of 1,755 metres and links the Barousse valley (in the Hautes-Pyrénées department) and the Oueil valley (in the Haute-Garonne department) via a small road, which is closed in winter.
BOURG-D'OUEILAfter passing through Saint-Bertrand de Comminges, you’re on your way up to Port de Balès. This out-of-category pass (average % 6.3 – maximum 11.7) is tough, but at the top you’ll have an exceptional 360° panorama of the high Pyrenean peaks.
From Marignac station, head towards Loures Barousse / Saint-Bertrand de Comminges, then Sarp to reach Mauléon Barousse. This is the start of the ascent to Port de Balès. Once you’ve reached the pass, you’ll descend towards Luchon, passing through all the villages of the Oueil valley before reaching Marignac station on the D125.
